Neuzeller Badebier
Klosterbrauerei Neuzelle • Germany
There is a tradition of beer-bathing in parts of eastern Europe, and we’d admittedly love to swim in a tub full of this dark east-German lager—but we strongly recommend taking it by mouth, daily, in half-liter doses.
Badebier (“bath beer”) is no doubt a wonderful and soothing adjunct in the steamrooms of old Saxony, and the full pleasures of this schwarz open up even more in the glass. Medium-bodied, with aromas & flavors of black bread, chocolate, and roasty malt, Neuzeller’s pumpernickel-colored specialty is nevertheless an excellent—and restorative– quaffing brew. To your health!
